I’m participating in a romance blog hop because this past July I wrote my first contemporary romance, Love Comes Later. From January 25 to 29 those who hop to other blogs can get great recommendations on romance reads. My novel is set in Qatar and has as much to do with culture as it does passion which means I like the non-traditional definitions of the romance genre.
This is probably why I recommend, The Beauty Chorus which is not your typical romance book either. Set against the backdrop of WWII, the novel has as much history as it does love, and only one or two steamy scenes. But the author, Kate Lord Brown, imagines the lives of women who served as pilots ferrying fighter jets back and forth across Europe.
I loved the story as much for the detail as for the male characters who recognized the bright, feisty women for the treasures they were. For those who are looking beyond the bodice ripper for a good read, laced with love, then this is the type of title I recommend.
A hefty read at over 400 pages, you will keep turning because you come to care not only about these characters, but learn about the women and men who flew aircraft around to various bases so that the fighter pilots would be able to continue to resisting the Axis powers.
Death, misogyny, and war rationing are amongst the real life hardships these women grappled with during this tumultuous period and this book gives the reader a wide sense of these elements.
As part of the hop, I’m hosting a giveaway of my book to the first commenter on this post who can answer the question if we fall or choose to be in love. A hot topic, I look forward to what you have to say! Hop on to see what other bloggers have to say about more great books via the button below and let us know if you pick up any one of the recommended reads.
Writers wouldn’t make it without readers and the best way to tell people about a title is still word of mouth (yes, even over Facebook OR Twitter) so whatever book you’re reading, please leave the author a review!
